Begin your Global Forum experience with an optional pre-tour that offers an introduction to Botswana's democratic traditions, governance structures, and rich cultural heritage. Through a curated programme of visits, presentations, and cultural experiences, you will gain valuable insights into the country's approach to democracy, citizen participation, and community leadership.
Participation fee
€50 per person (covering transportation and applicable entry fees). Please pay the participation fee via our donation page here. Under "My donation for a certain project", please select "Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy."
Important Information
- Registration is required. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
- To ensure the best possible experience for all participants, we kindly encourage attendees to take part in the programme for its full duration. If you are unable to join at the start of the tour or need to leave early, we ask that you arrange your own transportation to meet or depart from the group.
What to Expect
The pre-tour is designed to provide an engaging introduction to Botswana through a combination of institutional visits, expert exchanges, and cultural experiences. While the programme is still being finalised, participants can expect a full day of activities that may include:
- Academic perspectives and expert discussions at the University of Botswana.
- Visits to key democratic and civic institutions, offering insights into Botswana's governance system, local government, parliamentary processes, and consultative decision-making.
- Opportunities to engage with representatives from public institutions and learn about citizen participation, democratic values, and leadership traditions.
- A visit to sites of national significance that reflect Botswana's history, identity, and social values.
- An immersive cultural experience featuring local traditions and community perspectives.
