Following their earlier story, Children and Young People Living for Peace (CYPLP) returns with a second event contribution to the International Democracy Community. This September initiative marked International Democracy Day with a focus on empowering young people and women to pursue elective political roles.
Meanwhile, on September 11, 2025, we hosted our September event with the theme, Towards Youths and Women into Elective Political Powers in Nigeria, to celebrate International Democracy Day.
This mentorship program was a huge success, with 10 participants (three women and seven men). It was a powerful opportunity to share ideas and inspire young people to realise they have the right to be voted for, not just to cast a vote. We reflected on generating and identifying roadblocks and barriers that hinder youth and women from holding political elective powers and what can be done to overcome them individually, at the grassroots and national levels. As well as what the international community can do to help.
We were excited to partner with the Atlas Movement, which gave a compelling Zoom presentation introducing their vision for Nigeria's political future and their global goals.
The event was interactive and engaging, and participants expressed a strong desire for more opportunities like this in the future.
Ready for what's next?
Our October event is going to be amazing. We'll be bringing 30 young people into one room for an "ideation bomb" focused on "Youth-to-Youth Trust Building and Community Mobilisation."
We'll work together to create local solutions for global democracy.
