New From Ostrich Farm Press, A Look at Local Community and Homes
Ostrich Farm Press, the book arm of Democracy Local, has published its second book—a collection of essays called The House of California: Stories of State, Family and Home.
The collection, from Democracy Local founder-publisher Joe Mathews, takes readers to six local communities across California. Each essay examines one family home in that community, and how that home has been changed by its occupants, its community and the world.
The House of California also includes essays on the author's own home (and the ghost who haunts it), and on a Los Angeles home that was owned by a leading direct democracy activist, and is now a worship site for a group of Tibetan Buddhists.
The book is available at Amazon, and via Democracy Local by emailing joe@democracylocal.com.
