We have a varied and interesting programme planned for you that goes well beyond the actual Global Forum conference, that will take place from 23-26 September of this year. On this page you can find a quick overview of the planned events. We will post more information here as soon as we have it.

1. THE BRIEFING TOUR - 26-28 April 2021

Experience first-hand how votes are prepared and organised in the world’s most advanced direct democracy and be part of an unique excursion.

This briefing tour is optional and spaces are limited. To cover the costs, we will also be charging a small fee. If you would like to take part, make sure to tick the box "I would like to take part the optional briefing tour ahead of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy 2021" when you register. We will inform you as soon as the programme is fixed and you will be able to sign up for the pre-tour at that point.

2. THE WORLD CONFERENCE - 28 April - 1 May 2021

The main event! Participate and contribute to a three-day gathering focussing on Modern Direct Democracy around the world. This year we will be focussing on five specialised tracks: Swiss direct democracy, youth power, citizens´assemblies, digital democracy and transnational democracy.

You can send in your proposals for workshops and academic papers for the Global Forum conference until 15 September 2020 here.

3. THE BERN DEMOCRACY CITY SUMMIT - 1 May 2021 (Afternoon)

More than 50 cities from around the world are expected to join forces in the new International League of  Democracy Cities.

More information on the League can be found here.

4. THE CANTONAL ASSEMBLY - 2 May 2021

Witness one of the oldest forms of direct democracy in the world, the Landsgemeinde, or cantonal assembly, in the state of Glarus.

Please note that space for this event will be limited. We will be contacting everyone who has registered for the Global Forum, asking them to confirm whether or not they would like to attend.
