Accomodation at the Democracy Camp

Discover the small Rhenish town of Vallendar with the flair of an ancient past and the typical charm of this region. Old town houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, often half-timbered with elaborate carvings, characterise the townscape and invite you to take a historical tour of the town.

From the listed "Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm", built in 1899, you have a wide view over the Rhine valley, the Hunsrück and the Eifel mountains. Situated at the foot of the Westerwald, extensive forests invite you to go hiking.

In Vallendar we'll be staying at Jugendzentrum Marienberg (Youth Centre Marienberg), Am Marienberg 4, 56179 Vallendar.  Achim and Anne already scouted the place, you can find some pictures at the end of the page!

"New City" is the guiding idea according to which the architect designed the Marienberg Youth Centre. The diverse roof construction makes the three buildings look like a collection of houses of the "New City". The rooms bear the names of local personalities and thus refer to their lives or they bear the names of continents and refer to Vallendar's internationality.

Accessibility

Marienberg features two wheelchair-accessible rooms and a barrier-free shower and bathroom. Wheelchair users have previously taken part in projects at Marienberg, however, not all areas are easily accessible. If you are interested in taking part please contact us at camp@democracy-international.org to go over potential barriers and how to best accommodate you at the Camp!

Question

Is this a religious space? The youth centre is associated with a catholic youth movement but the Democracy Camp is non-partisan and non-religious. Everybody is welcome to take part!

Fun Fact

In the middle of the Rhine, opposite Vallendar, lies the island of Niederwerth, the only river island in Germany with a village community. Particularly in the asparagus and strawberry season, it is a centre of attraction for gourmets.
